Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru "Clos de la Maréchale" 2016, J-F Mugnier

Located in the fair village of Chambolle, Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier was founded in 1863 and has built a stellar reputation over the last 150 years. I'm not sure if this reflects the small volumes of wine produced in 2016 but this was the sole bottle presented at the Justerini & Brooks tasting. In 2003 the entire Clos de la Maréchale (9 ha 76 ares) was returned to the family domaine after the termination of a fermage contract. This increased the size of the domaine from 4 hectares to 14 hectares. This 2016 Nuits Saint Georges 1er cru monopole has an attractive cherry nose, it's open, there seems to be a hint of peat and mint. On the palate very pleasant berry fruit, strawberry, ripe, a bit plump and even feminine. There is a mineral freshness it's attractive and flirts with the taste buds.
